If it hadn't been for my childhood love for oil painting and sketching, I wouldn't have uncovered my professional design passion.

Time in Florence embodies my study abroad experience in a triptych format. Placed against the picturesque backdrop of the Boboli Gardens, brightened with the vibrant chair from Move On, the painting centers on my dear friend, Adia. In previous years, I explored multi-compositional works of things that I love, and I was inspired to do that again.
I designed this project with elements that made my abroad experience special into one cohesive work. Through thorough selection and manipulation of reference images in Procreate, I compiled Adia’s different poses to contain her calm expression and relaxed hand positions. The background represents a core memory from that spring that compliments the subject. Utilizing Photoshop, I created a high-definition reference image from all the separate elements. I experimented with various layouts in Illustrator using the clipping mask tool until I established a balanced composition I was pleased with. While the composition functions as a tryptic, I believe each piece could stand on its own.
Time in Florence symbolizes artistic expression through manipulation similarly to how experience between individuals uniquely shape a memory. There will always be a different key moment taken from an event that shapes the lasting impression and Time in Florence will forever represent my outlook on study abroad.
